Tag-A-Longs

Wednesday morning Daddy informed us of a business day trip he would be taking the next day to a couple of small towns about 2 hours away.  As soon as I heard this, I immediately said "can we come too?"  After all, school is out and we are free as a bird.  Or as free as 3 birds.  That's the great part about summer.  We have no schedules, no plans, nothing to tie us down.  So why not tag-a-long?  After giving this some thought though, I wondered what we would do on this day trip and how would we fill our time while Daddy was "taking care of business."   But I quickly realized that thinking too hard takes all the fun out of a spontaneous day trip and decided to sit back and see what happened.  Turns out we had the best day!  We stumbled on what we thought was a simple park with typical play equipment, swings,  and picnic tables.  But is was so much more!  There was a planetarium, health and science museum, nature center, underground cave, and a train!  All geared toward children that were the ages of Sunshine and Glory!  ( and it was free! Always a huge bonus)   We saw the solar system,  saw the stages of development of a baby,  crawled inside the human heart and  stomach,  watched bees making honey, looked at snakes, iguanas, dead but stuffed real bears and deers, and so many other things.  A  visiting school teacher from a field trip even shared 3 lunches with us!  After spending more than 2 hours here, Daddy was finished with his work and we brought him over to share this surprising adventure with him.   He was able to ride the train with us!  (oh come on, you had fun on that train).  (it was a really slow train).  The day, while it was unseasonably hot, turned out to be such a great, unplanned, unscheduled day.  That's how it seems to work with us.  Our best days seem to be the ones we just stumble upon.  And Sunshine and Glory were happy, excited, satisfied, and content the entire day.  I think they have realized that Mom and Dad don't always make "plans",  they just let it happen.  Thanks for a great day, girls, and Daddy........when and where is your next day trip??
