Now, let me give you some background. When our friends mentioned that we could go out with them on their boat sometime, Glory, of all people, protested, fussed, and worried which is not usually like her. "I don't want to go on the boat!" "What if I put my hand in the water and we tip over?!" "I'm NOT going on that boat!" Sunshine, thankfully, was all for it. And me?? I said "I don't think we'll get out and swim in the lake. I think we'll just be in the boat". (I'm not too crazy about lake water. I don't like the mud and green stuff at the bottom. It's not like the sand and rocks that you feel between your toes at the beach).
Well, were we all in for a great surprise!! Glory, after deciding that our Captain, W., could be trusted, and after strapping on her life vest, finally sat down, relaxed, took a deep breath and had the time of her life. ( well, not THE time of her life, because I hope she has many "times of her life") We all had a great time! As soon as we found a nice area to "anchor" (I'm not sure of the correct term for turning the boat off and letting it just float) our friend A. , right away, jumped into the calm , still, warm, water which is what she had been doing before we arrived. And who was the next one in, without any coaxing, convincing, bribing, whining, or complaining?? GLORY!! Just like that! Sunshine quickly followed, swimming around like her usual, brave, "I can do it, I'm fine" self.
It didn't take too long for me to realize that this lake water wasn't so bad after all, and in fact, because we were in the middle of the lake, and I couldn't feel that yucky mud and green stuff, I loved being out in the lake, with miles of water all around me, that will slightly rock me back and forth if another boat passes by to create small waves and ripples. An even bigger surprise was that I attempted to water ski. I had to give it a try. Because of my girls, I had to try. How can I help them be brave, strong, confident, and adventurous if I'm not? So....... for my first try ever, I'd say I did ok. I only stayed up for a few micro-seconds, and swallowed lots of lake water, but I did ok. (I'll get up there next time)
This was a day full of good friends, good memories, milestones, and sweet, relaxing moments. We can only look forward to more.
