Growing Up

Sunshine has come to the point where she pulls her own loose teeth.  It's not like it used to be where she would wiggle it for weeks, and then finally they would almost fall out on their own. Those days are gone.  Now she wiggles them for a while, then pulls them out, usually at night before going to bed.  Then she tells me afterward that it's been pulled.  Last night was one of those nights.  After coming to me with her big announcement and an excited smile on her face, she showed me the empty space in her mouth and evidence of what she had accomplished.  I was proud of her.  She had pulled her primary molar by herself without any fanfare.  And she was proud of herself.

But the next morning....... we had a problem.   I was informed that the tooth fairy didn't pay her a visit the night before!  "Surely the tooth fairy left you something", I said reassuringly.   (This tooth fairy felt really bad.  She's never forgotten.  But for some reason, she was really tired that night and turned in a little early)

So I secretly made my way upstairs to Sunshines room to play tooth fairy, hoping I could convince her that there was a surprise there all along.

But I should have known better.  You see Sunshine has known for a while about the tooth fairy, and while I sneaked upstairs, so did she.  Just in time to jump out from behind her door and catch me in the act!  (I think the neighbors could hear me scream)

Sunshine, it's getting harder and harder to pull one over on you these days. Why do you have to grow up??
